4-5 March 2022 District Tournament

The team had 10 wrestlers qualify but Soph Josh Cline was unable to attend. We took 9 and got 8 through the 1st day of wrestling. To break it down, at this stage of the season, literally half of the wrestlers are state ranked. Only a quarter of the wrestlers in each weight can qualify for state so the competition is tough. This trio of Seniors will be missed!! 3x District Champ Damion Ryan. PLACERS:

State Alternate: Jr Gunnar Pool 5th

Fr Levi Howard, Soph Josh Cline and Jr Griffin Burkle look to improve and get back to District next year. Sr Nolan Winfield and Sr Spencer Meng had great seasons and were so close. We wish them the best!!

26 Feb 2022 Sectionals @ Centerville

Another good weekend as the team got 1st out of 15 teams. We got 10 guys through to the district tournament 4-5 March.

Placers: 113 Howard 4th, 120 Ryan 1st, 126 Acuna 1st, 132 Taylor 1st, 138 Meng 1st, 144 Burkle 2nd, 150 Winfield 3rd, 157 Cline 3rd, 165 George 1st and 190 Pool 1st. From what i could tell Ryan and Acuna are 4-time sectional champs and Taylor is a 3-time champ! Amazing group of seniors!

10 wrestlers finished in the top 4 helping us get 2nd in GWOC. 3 champs…legends to the program Damion Ryan, Luke Acuna and Simon Taylor carried the team. Simon Taylor finishes as a 2x GWOC champ. Luke Acuna finishes as a 3x GWOC Champ. Damion Ryan finishes as a 4-time GWOC champ, the 1st in school history!!

Placers: 113 Howard 4th, 120 Ryan 1st, 126 Acuna 1st, 132 Taylor 1st, 138 Meng 3rd, 144 Burkle 3rd, 150 Winfield 3rd, 157 Cline 4th, 165 George 3rd and 190 Pool 2nd.

15 Jan 2022 Freshman Buckeye Classic

Hello here at CHS, it was a pretty good day. We had 11 wrestlers in 8 weight classes and had 8 placers in 6 of those weight classes. 1st place went to 113 Levi Howard, 120 Nolan Humphrey and 170 John Moyer. 2nd place 120 Ethan Waller and 220 Brandon Kim. 4th place to 106 Mitchell Winfield. 6th place to 145 Azim Kazimov and 113 Connor Haig. The team finsihed 5/15. Great job guys!!

13 Jan 2022 Mechanicsburg Dual

Mechanicsburg came to Centerville as the projected #5 DIII team and even though Centerville was missing some key wrestlers, they were able to pull off the victory thanks to some underclassmen stepping up. 106 Mitchell Winfield got a nice decision to get us started. Crouch stepped in at 113 to collect the forfeit and then Levi Howard wrestled up a weight and recorded a key pin. Aaron Hunt stepped in at 126 to get the forfeit securing a big lead. Pins along the way from 144 Burkle and 165 George kept us ahead. Securing the win was John Moyer at 175. Even though he lost a close match to a number 12 state ranked wrestler, his ability to keep it close, not get pinned ensured our victory. Being without Damion Ryan, Luke Acuna, Gunnar Pool and Orphan Akbary hurt us but the young guys came through. 39-37

30 Dec 2021 Ashland Holiday Invitational

What an event! Held at the Ashland Keith Wygant Memorial Field House in place of the canceled Brecksville Tournament, we were treated to watching 20+ teams with 80+ state ranked wrestlers representing all 3 divisions in Ohio. Very grateful for the Ashland staff organizing this tourney and even though it was a bring your own chair event, it was quite an amazing experience. The team took 7th overall…individual results may vary!
